I am embarrassed to confess that I haven't read Kipling's the Jungle Book in original. So the sanitized Disney version that i have seen has been shorn of several of the imperialist and racist references. e.g the Bandar Log. What would breakfasts on Sunday morning be without "Jungle Jungle Baat Chali hai, Pata Chala Hai...Chaddi pehen ke phool khila hai, phool khila hai"

Yes, Kipling really had it in for the Bhadralok as did Lord Macaulay who famously said "What horns are to a buffalo...deceit is to the Bengali"
